Hi Loren...

I never new your roots were from Mail Labs. Loved that platform and I had a fair bit of contact with Dan Poole back in the day. Actually I just looked up the emails, back in 2002.

It's mind blowing how quickly time flies.

Your point about certification is a great one and I am sure will lead to some debate and hopefully some standards and bar raising.

I look forward to meeting you at the next conference.

Regards,

Jeff

PS...love your Top 5 blogs 1,2 and 3 plus #5 are on my fav list. Gonna read more #4

OK, if that's the case, I'll take credit for getting "#emailsnob" started :-) - but Scott you've turned it into something and a larger tribe/community has run with it and generally speaks with a common and powerful voice. Social media and the tribe concept at its best!

Long live the email snobs.

Jay: Appreciate the read and the kind words. Would love to see a collaboration between you and Loren on some project in the future. A solid combination of minds there.

Luke: Thanks for the very kind words about the blog. It's nice to know that the voice I've been working hard to develop here is being appreciated.

I believe you're right that Loren started the hashtag. But it definitely took off quickly, and I adopted it almost right away. Between Loren, myself, and John Caldwell, it's come to mean something in the community.

That's part of the reason I enjoy doing this series so much. Different voices, attitudes, and fabulous content. (And the best part? I don't have to do a whole lot.)

Just had to come back and add one more thought. I totally agree with Loren, we need more of the client-side email marketers in the field to step and show leadership in the industry. Most of the thought leadership comes from the Vendor side of the industry, and while vendors typically have a wider breath of knowledge, I would like to see more from the people that actually hit SEND on email campaigns.

Email marketers, if we don't stand up and ask for what we need, the vendors will never know and the industry will not move forward or at least it will probably miss some of our pain points. Only when Email Marketers stand up and request attention on things that matter to them, like accurate reporting, will the vendors know it's worth implementing. I believe the vendors want to help us, but if we don't ask for that help, we'll never get it. We have a stake in this industry and responsibility to move it forward, perhaps even more so than our friends, the vendors do. After all, at the end of the day, it is us that hits the send button and it’s us that are responsible for the success or failure of our email programs and of this industry.
