The Nora Chronicles: The Third Month

by Scott Cohen on February 6, 2010

in Fatherhood

I’m a week late on this post, but Nora has completed her first “quarter” of life.

Smiles and “Conversations.”

That’s how I can describe the third month of my daughter’s life.

Nora has learned how to smile on purpose, and her smile is lethal for hearts… mine in particular. She has the tendency to bust it out at exactly the point I’m about to lose my mind over her lack of sleeping, and it immediately softens me.

Now I know what my co-worker means when he tells me, “Man, you are in DEEP trouble with this little girl.” He’s right. I am. And I’m okay with that.

Nora is also beginning to have “conversations” with people. No words, but instead of just crying, she’s begun gooing and making noises in response to stimuli, whether it’s her parents talking to or around her, or simply the TV.

…And she’s getting oh so close to actually laughing. I know when that happens, I’m completely done for.

So I guess I’ll settle for the best moments this month, which have been those times where she has woken up without crying and smiles at her first glimpse of me.

This whole being a dad is getting really fun.

Till next month…

==================

I’ll likely wait a little while after her technical four-month “birthday” because her four month appointment is March 1st. I will want to share the updated measurements at that time.
