My "Reflecting on Life" Photo

Today’s my birthday (yep, the same day as last year). I’m now 26 years old. It’s time to say goodbye to 25. Let’s see–how about a year in review?

My 25th year of existence started with the tail end of recovery from sinus surgery. The surgery was successful, but the recovery was not exactly a pleasant experience. So the moral of the story? Don’t have sinus surgery unless you have to.

Otherwise, in retrospect, sans the news of the baby that’s due in about two and a half months, the year was largely uneventful. Here’s a recap:

  • Saw the best two in-person football games in my entire life: Utah v. Oregon State (last minute win) and Utah v. TCU (again, last minute win)
  • Went to the Email Evolution Conference down in Scottsdale, drank the kool-aid, and now am working on becoming an official email marketing guru (if those sorts of things are official)
  • Took over email marketing at Western Governors University recently, spearheaded the effort to switch to an ESP, and am now in the transition process.
  • Got to meet one of my childhood heroes, Hall of Fame NFL Coach  Joe Gibbs. Got his autograph on my Super Bowl XXII Commemorative Card Collection. He told me stories about Timmy Smith (sorry Broncos fans). Amazing afternoon.
  • Joined Twitter. I think I can say enough said.
  • Oh, by the way, learned I’d be a father. Baby’s due in November, so she’ll (it’s a girl) will be a large part of my “Saying Goodbye to 26″ recap in a year.

To be so busy yet not have much to report, is this what adulthood is like?

Maybe so, until you have kids. Oh well. 25 was a good year. Here’s hoping 26 is even better.

Addendum:
I’ve always wondered who else shares my birthday. According to Wikipedia and my encyclopedic knowledge, here’s the list:

  • @shannonholato
  • Don King — Yes, THAT Don King
  • Ron Paul — Yes, THAT Ron Paul
  • Isaac Hayes — He’s a complicated man…
  • Connie Chung — Where’s Maury?
  • Robert Plant — And she’s buying a stairway…
  • Al Roker — And here’s what’s happening in your neck of the woods
  • Fred Durst — He did it all for the what now?
  • Amy Adams — I got nothing. She’s gorgeous.

Got any others?
